Independence Day
You Know I Love You America
Independence Day in America is usually cause for some celebration in our family but this year feels very different in our house. Its hard to get behind a flag when you’re afraid it might whip around and smack you in the face whenever the wind changes…For the record, I LOVE America. I love it so much that I married a beautiful American woman named Andrea Aragon and together we raised two young men with the values we believed reflected the best of both our worlds. This has never been a problem for us because our countries have historically shared so much in common…until now.
The continuing disrespect for our sovereignty by the American president combined with his mean spirited and self defeating trade war have left the once loyal relationship between our two countries forever changed. I admit to being worried at first about how Canada would fare in the world with our former “big brother” now suddenly become our “big bully”. But having just spent 33 days and 10,000+ kilometres singing with my fellow citizens, I am now confident we shall prevail regardless of what sticks and stones the American leader slings at us next (and he will).
What concerns me today are the great many millions of Americans who did not choose this path but are forced now to survive in a nation they no longer recognize. Please know that we love you still in spite of your leader’s many transgressions. Anger and division are the cause of your suffering but these evils can be overcome by LOVE and CARE. So do not give up and fall into despair. Look inside yourselves and find the one good reason you need to RISE UP and fight back with all your hearts against the growing darkness that now surrounds you. RISE UP and become again the beacon of light that once lead the world forward through challenging times because the world needs THAT America now more than ever before.
The future is unwritten and humanity holds the pen. To quote one of your better presidents, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself”. Music has always helped me get through hard times so here’s a song from the book ONE GOOD REASON I wrote with my American wife (did I mention that she was beautiful…?) ❤️

We sincerely hope it helps you heal.

I've loved your music for years, and this is so greatly appreciated. Can you just ask Canada to annex some of us?
Thank you for your words of support and understanding. From the bottom of my splintered heart that aches for what is happening. Your music is much appreciated. Again, thanks for lifting me up today (very challenging day) and for reminding me to have hope and to do what I can...putting love out into this world as best I can.
